- Our Curriculum
At Scargill Junior School it is our intent to deliver a curriculum that ....
- Equips all pupils with the basic skills of reading, writing and mathematics to ensure that pupils are adequately prepared for the transition from KS2 to KS3.
- Enables children to understand who they are and the world in which they inhabit.
- Engages pupils with thinking about the values, ideas and objects that help to shape our lives.
- Facilitates meaningful links between subjects.
- Inspires curiosity where pupils know what they are learning about, why and want to know more.
- Celebrates our local history, geography and demography.
- Exposes pupils to ambitious vocabulary.
We do this by ......
- Ensuring that our subjects are coherently planned and sequenced.
- Using carefully chosen, high-quality texts in all areas of the curriculum.
- Enriching knowledge and understanding with well-planned visits and visitors.
- Using knowledge from the local community.
- Making our classrooms book rich environments.
- Ensuring that lessons are tailored to meet the needs of all pupils.
- Making lessons enjoyable, engaiging and fun.
- Creating opportunities for character development.
The impact will be that our pupils ...
- Can clearly articulate what they are learning about and why it is important.
- Are engaged with their learning.
- Have a love of reading that in turn enables them to make accelerated progress.
- Achieve in line with or above government expectations.
- Have a keen interest in the wider world and a thirst for knowledge.
- Have a good understanding of the local area and how it came to be.
- Have developed positive character traits and a moral and ethical compass required to navigate our increasingly complex world
